  • There would be 3 new playoff teams compared to last season if the season ended today
  • The 9 repeaters: Houston, Baltimore, New England, Denver, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, San Francisco, New York Giants, Green Bay
  • Since the NFL moved to the 4 divisions per conference format in 2002, there has never been more than 8 playoff teams returning from the previous season. The average number of repeat playoff teams is 6.
A Quick Look Ahead to Week 9:
Detroit at Minnesota (Sunday, 1:00 PM) - Minnesota beat Detroit in Detroit back in week 4, but Minnesota is falling hard these last two weeks while the Lions are rising. A key game for the Lions, who are already 0-2 in a loaded division.
San Diego at Tampa Bay (Sunday, 1:00 PM) - Both teams are 4-4 and on the edge of the playoff picture, but one has underachieved to get here and the other has overachieved to reach this level.
Houston at Chicago (Sunday, 8:20 PM) - A battle of 7-1 teams led by tremendous defenses.
