USA 1, Costa Rica 0

This is not a game that will be remembered as a classic. It will be remembered for the weather. Specifically, the crazy snowstorm that hit Denver tonight. How bad was it? They stopped the game in the 55th minute and considered abandoning it for the night (at least), before common sense was used and they resumed play.

Should they have abandoned the match? Hell no! If the game was okay to begin it was okay to finish. Both teams wanted to finish the game out, and eventually their wishes carried the day.

Clint Dempsey (who else) tallied the lone goal early in the match, and from that point on it was on the US to simply hang on and survive the match and the conditions. They didn't adjust to the conditions until the second half, as they were careless with the ball too often in the last 10 minutes of the first half. Costa Rica did tally a goal, but were called for offside on the play, a call replays didn't unequivocally confirm.

But the important news is the USA wins and gets 3 points in the Hex table. We'll take a look at the table after game #3 of the Hex, which will be played on 3/26 at Mexico.
