March Madness Day 4, Part 3

Florida Gulf Coast 81, San Diego State 71
Well, we have witnessed history tonight. For the first time ever, a #15 seed has reached the Sweet 16. And they looked really impressive doing it. Florida Gulf Coast took it to San Diego State from the outset of this game, and while San Diego State matched them for more than an entire half, eventually they wore down, and FGC's quick hands started coming up with steals which led to dunks, layups, and back-breaking three-pointers. Florida Gulf Coast, for the second straight game, seemed to enjoy a speed and quickness advantage without suffering a huge disadvantage in the paint. Usually a seed this low has one but not the other.

If Florida Gulf Coast doesn't embody March Madness for you, you're watching it incorrectly.

La Salle 76, Mississippi 74
This was a really fun game to watch. Back and forth, back and forth. Very similar to the Ohio State-Iowa State game. Neither team could pull away, and one team (Ole Miss) turned it over with less than 35 seconds left in a tie game. The other team (La Salle) then dribbled down the clock and scored (in this case, a layup) with little time left (2.5 seconds). The desperation heave wasn't close, and La Salle goes from the First Four into the Sweet 16. Unfortunately, this means we don't get to see the irrational confidence  or fake widow's peak of Mississippi's Marshal Henderson.
