World Cup Update, June 26

Yesterday's Results:
Bosnia-Herzegovina 3, Iran 1
Argentina 3, Nigeria 2
Ecuador 0, France 0
Switzerland 3, Honduras 0

Four Quick Thoughts
- Much was expected of Bosnia coming into this World Cup after they rolled through qualifying. Instead they were eliminated after the first two games of group stage play. Considering their loss against Nigeria featured some suspect officiating, it was nice to see Bosnia finally get a W against an over-matched Iran team.

- Lionel Messi is amazing, and it's wonderful to finally see his brilliance in full effect on the World Cup stage. But also, Nigeria entered the tournament with many questions after a lethargic loss to the US in the final tune up game. But they grinded out results against Iran and Bosnia, then went toe-to-toe with Argentina in a 3-2 loss.

- I didn't see this game, but France had no reason to over-exert themselves, and Ecuador was clearly the runt of the CONMEBOL litter among those teams that qualified for the World Cup.

- Costa Rica and Mexico (and hopefully the US today) have made a strong case for CONCACAF to not lose any bids to UEFA (something FIFA has been considering). But Honduras has made just as strong a case that CONCACAF doesn't deserve any further bids either.
