Unreal...just unreal. I'm more upset for my son, who picked his bracket all by himself, and went with Georgetown, and then they come out and look like (as friend of the blog Jimmy Whitebread put it) a high school team. The thing is, Georgetown should not have been taken by surprise, as Florida Gulf Coast beat Miami earlier this season. Yeah, #2 seed Miami. So they should have been ready. And they weren't. This marks the 4th year in a row where Georgetown has lost to a double-digit seed in the tournament. Incidentally, this would also qualify as information I wish I had before I slotted Georgetown in my Final Four.
Ohio State 95, Iona 70
This is how a 2-seed is supposed to behave. Observe the 15-seed, diagnose the weaknesses, and attack. Relentlessly. The refer to yourself as from "the [school name]" in any interviews. Oh, that last part isn't necessary? Are you sure?
North Carolina 78, Villanova 71
Villanova dominated in the paint (they had a 36-16 points in the paint edge with about 4 minutes to go), but North Carolina decimated them from behind the arc (UNC was 11/21, Nova was 4/21). However, Carolina's stay will be short-lived. They remain one of the sloppiest, laziest teams in the tournament. The commentators said Roy Williams will have a long talk with his team, but his teams are always like this. Sure, he must hate the fact that his players throw the ball away continuously, and look out of control 60% of the time, but he hasn't done anything to curb these tendencies in his 10 years as UNC coach.
Florida 79, Northwestern State 47
This was actually a 6-point game in the early second half, then NW State went ice cold and Florida, well, didn't. I was surprised when I looked at the box score and Florida was only 7/21 on 3-pointers. It felt liek they were raining them down as they pulled away in the second half.
Now it's time to try and keep tabs on 5 games running concurrently: the last 4
