Michigan State 65, Valparasio 54
And it wasn't that close. It took MSU about half of the first half to get over the jitters of leading off March Madness 2013 (don't mention the First Four, it still doesn't count), and once that happened Valpo was doomed. Dooooooooomed.
Butler 68, Bucknell 56
This was 21-14 Butler at the half, and it was about as interesting as it sounds. The difference? Butler was 25-28 on free throws, while Bucknell was 5-8. Yep, they shot a grand total of 8 free throws. In case you forgot from 2 and 3 years ago, Butler can play defense.
Wichita State 73, Pittsburgh 55
I'm a little offended by this game being marked in red with "UPSET ALERT" on it. It's a 9 seed over an 8 seed. This is one of those "following the letter of the law but not the spirit of the law" things. Oh, and in case the last decade hasn't convinced you, Pitt still can't do offense well. 19/54 from the field and 1/17 from behind the arc.
St. Louis 64, New Mexico State 44
And it wasn't that close. The best thing about this game was turning it on and wondering when New Mexico State had convinced the Big Show to enroll. And wondering why the Big Show had changed his name to Sim Bhullar.
