Duke 73, Albany 61
Duke learned their lesson from last year when they were upset in the first (okay, second) round as a 2 seed. They came out, attacked hard on D, and built a nice little lead that Albany could never dig themsevles out from under.
Mississippi 57, Wisconsin 46
Since Wisconsin was involved, you knew this game would be low scoring. You also knew there would be some poor shooting, since Wisconsin likes to drag you down to their level. Ole Miss obliged, shooting 38.6% from the field. However, Wisconsin went them one better, shooting just 25.4% from the field. That number wasn't surprising as the Badgers simply couldn't hit anything from the field for the last 5+ minutes of the game. Part of the credit for Wisconsin's horrible shooting does have to go to the Rebels, as they dominated the paint on defense in the second half.
Temple 76, North Carolina State 72
North Carolina State didn't get going until late in the game, and Temple simply hit all of their free throws. In a way, this game is a microcosm of NC State's entire season. They had plenty of hype, failed to deliver on it, before rallying towards the end to make people believe there was a chance they could deliver. On another note, I didn't like NC State's decision to not try for a 3 pointer until there were 2 seconds left, as they were consistently down 4-5 for the last minute. As I said before, Temple was hitting their free throws, so NC State wasn't making up ground by driving for layups and free throws on their possessions.
Miami 78, Pacific 49
Too much talent, too much athleticism, bye bye Pacific. The Hurricanes are the 5th team to have an argument for a 1 seed. After 1 tournament game (which is plenty of evidence for bold proclamations) Miami looks a heck of a lot more like a 1 seed than Gonzaga does.
