A quick primer on what all of this information is:
Team, W(ins), L(osses), T(ies), and Pct (winning percentage) are all self-explanatory. The Conference and Division records are separated into separate columns for Wins/Losses/Ties. This was purely a formatting move designed to help me update the tables more efficiently.
PF - Points For (points scored by the team for the season)
PA - Points Against (points scored by the team's opponents for the season)
Pythag% - Pythagorean winning percentage - this is based on PF and PA
RoS SOS - Rest of Season Strength of Schedule
Interesting bits of information:
- The Broncos win the tiebreaker for the top seed in the AFC over the Patriots and Bengals because they beat both of those teams head-to-head.
- The Patriots win the tiebreaker for the 2nd seed in the AFC over the Bengals based on a better record in common games (4-1 vs 2-3 against the Steelers, Bills, Broncos, and Texans).
- The Steelers beat out the Jets for the final playoff spot because they hold the better record in common games (4-1 vs 3-2 against the Browns, Patriots, Raiders, and Colts)
- Six of the top seven teams in the AFC by pythagorean win percentage made the playoffs. The Jets were 5th, ahead of the Broncos and Texans.
