World Cup Update, June 20

Yesterday's Results:
Colombia 2, Ivory Coast 1
Uruguay 2, England 1
Japan 0, Greece 0

Three thoughts on the games
- Colombia plays an enteratining brand of soccer, and for much of the world who only remembers their soccer team for the Andres Escobar tragedy, I'm glad they're getting a chance to change that image. They also have pretty fun goal celebrations that would make Roger Goodell's head explode.

- Oh England, how could you do this to your fans? Letting Luis Suarez score the goal that all-but eliminates you from contention? Man it's hard to watch Liverpool's Suarez finish with authority while Rooney misses chance after chance afte...OH MY GOD ROONEY SCORED!! He scored in the World Cup!!! Surely this is a sign that England are going to finish strong and move on to the knockout round and...WHAT?!?!? NO!!!! Suarez again??? How do you let Suarez of all people beat you again. Off of a keeper's kick no less.

If you open the dictionary and look up 'Englanded', I'm pretty sure the above paragraph is essentially what's there for a definition.

- I really, truly, loathe watching Greece. Their 2004 European Cup title was one of the worst developments possible because it encouraged the country to maintain its negative play because it was such a success in that tournament. And then once they went down to 10 men they really just parked the bus in front of their net. Late in the game Japan had completed over 400 passes while Greece had less than 150. I was sorry to see Japan not able to finish and essentially put Greece out of the tournament.
